U3A is University of the Third Age. The first age is childhood, the second age is employment and the third age is retirement.
U3A is a voluntary community organization. They have many activities. It provides low-cost learning to enable old people to stay mentally alert and physically active. There’re U3A’s all over the world.

I joined U3A Cairns in November 2000. I was a member for 3.5 years. There was no difficulty with me. In March 2004 was convicted in court for a minor criminal offence. It was reported in the local newspaper. I was evicted.

I waited 1.5 years to apply. It went before the Nov '05 committee meeting. The vote to reject it was unanimous. I re-applied in June '06.
It's only about membership in a social club.

I again re-applied in March '07. On my next two re-applications some committee members rescinded.
In a phone conversation with President E--- M---- I'm told, ".... our lawyers are looking into it."
After writing to the Dept of Fair Trading, Murray Lyons Solicitors and the Legal Services Commission, the committee finally agreed to hear my appeal.
Present at the appeal hearing on Mon 9 July '07 in the board room of Murray Lyons Solicitors were: -
(1) The lawyer, B----- T------,
(2) Madam Acting President M---- C---- N----,
(3) Madam Secretary P-- B----,
(4) myself, Richard Kubicki.

Madam Acting President said, " ... the biggest thing going against you is that you did not appeal at the time."
Richard, "I did not appeal at the time because I was fearful of derogatory remarks that would make me feel uncomfortable. I would not be happy going to where I do not feel welcome. I need to stay away for a while."
Richard Kubicki, a pensioner in public housing, I've written so many letters.
Richard continues, "If I appealed then stayed away, I'd be paying dues for nothing. I felt there's no point. I decided it'd be best to wait to let things cool down then quietly re-apply."
I'd earlier conveyed this by phone to President R-- C-----.
Madam Acting President, "A report on the appeal will go before the next U3A Cairns management committee meeting. They'll decide the outcome."
The outcome was that their lawyer sent me a letter (25 July 2007). My appeal was dismissed without an explanation.
I want an explanation. Why was my appeal dismissed?
Please let me in, I'm punished enough.
The appeal was not properly done so I want it re-heard: -
a) All committee members must be present,
b) The committee is to consider only the evidence put before it,
c) The appeal is to be decided by a vote of the members present at the meeting.
Nobody said, "Richard, we do not want you because we do not like you." All I've received is a stoney silence. I've never been accused of any wrongdoing. Therefore, there's nothing I need to answer for.

We all walk along different paths in life and everybody gets annoyed and angry at some time.
If everybody with a criminal conviction were evicted then U3A Cairns will cease to serve the older community and become an exclusive club.
